The Famous Thanksgiving Food Drive...
Shane Jeremy James is an active and generous philanthropist. Shane Jeremy James foundation had its beginnings in James and his Mother giving out baskets of groceries anonymously, to impoverished families at Thanksgiving each year.
A box was put into a local food bank where people could enter to win a free thanksgiving dinner. What the people did not know was that Shane would select everyone to win.
Shane says it just did not feel right, to have only a few winners. The goal at the start was to have just a few winners but when I seen all those names in the box, I had to make a commitment to feed everyone.
We went from choosing 20 winners to having over 120 families to feed. Since the beginnings of the drive, we have now feed thousands and thousands of families. It has come along way since our first drive with mom and myself. This will be our fifth year for the thanksgiving food drive and we now have many volunteers that step up and help us.
Shane says the most moving part of the Thanksgiving Food Drive to him comes later, from the cards he receives from the people we have helped.
"You must remember these are people can barely afford to eat, but to take the time and go out and buy a card to show their appreciation (which they can barely afford), has taught me a lot of good learning lessons.
I really appreciate the little things in life now. I do not take things for granted like I used too and I do not let life pass me by without being grateful just to live another day on this earth."
Replenish Shelves At Your Local Food Bank...
Christmas and thanksgiving is not the only time to give Shane says. Local food banks start to get short of food in specific months.
In March, Shane and his mother gave incentives for members and new members wanting to join their fitness club. Any new member to bring in a bag of groceries the sign up fee would be waved and any member of their fitness club who lost 5 pounds or 5 inches in a month and brought in a bag of groceries would be given a free t-shirt.
For the last four years, James has hosted the food drive raising over 3000 pounds of food each time.
